John Maina Mwangi

John Maina Mwangi, also known as John Boog, is an accomplished digital consultant and strategist who has spearheaded successful campaigns for various corporations, brands and individuals in Kenya. His expertise in social media communications and internet marketing has earned him recognition as a Senior Strategy & Communications Advisor to Nairobi Governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko, with whom he has worked closely for years. John played a key role in devising the strategy that helped Sonko get elected to Parliament and later the Senate.

In 2012, John conceived the idea for the Sonko Rescue Team Initiative, a program that provided crucial ambulance and hearse services, fire services, emergency security, automobile breakdown services, and clean drinking water to residents of Nairobi. The initiative, which employed over 1000 young people and helped tens of thousands across the city, was co-opted and closed by the local government in 2015.

John has also been instrumental in the development and execution of several notable initiatives, including the highly successful Kenyans for Kenya food relief and drought alleviation campaign, which raised €7.7 million through mobile phones. He has served a diverse clientele through his company, J Boog Media, which has included East and Central Africa's largest mall, a production company for local government films, a South African supermarket chain, the Kenyan Ministry of Sports & Culture, Swala Dance Crew, and Musician Mike Murimi Wamunyororo. In recognition of his work with the Sonko Rescue Team, John was awarded the Diamond Award for "Outstanding Use of Social Media" at the 2016 Africa Political Summit.
