William Akoto

Founding partner, West Africa

William Akoto is a dynamic and driven Ghanaian Canadian with more than a decade of experience in Marketing, Strategic Communications, Brand Building, Digital Marketing, and Political Management.

In his previous role, he led a team of over 35 staff members and generated annual revenue of approximately $23,000,000 while developing and executing successful marketing strategies for Mac's Convenience stores and gas bars in Southern Alberta.

Currently, as the Head of Marketing and Communications at Money Mentors, William is responsible for overseeing various initiatives including market research, SWOT/competitive analysis, company branding, promotions, media, and community relations. He ensures that all marketing objectives are achieved through an integrated marketing communications plan.

In the political arena, William has served as the Vice President of Communications for Alberta Liberal Party and also provides strategic guidance to progressive political candidates in Canada and Ghana.

William recently completed his Executive MBA from the University of Calgary, Haskayne School of Business, where his team were runners up for the Hult Prize in 2018. Additionally, he holds a Masters Certificate in Marketing Communications Leadership from York University, a Bachelor's degree in Communications from the University of Calgary, and a major in Advertising from Centennial College.

Outside of work, William is actively involved in several social, humanitarian, and political organizations in Canada and serves as a Board Member for some of them.
